    • Professional education and Training

      Responsibilities and tasks of the Scientific Research and Education Service make up a significant part of the activities of the BTIS including:Scientific research activities Education activities Professional training Scientific research work at the BTIS includes activities significant for the BTIS and the Republic of Serbia as a whole. Its objective is to improve the activities of the BTIS in the framework of blood transfusion, related with the implementation of new methods in routine practice, improvement of the production processes, acquiring new knowledge in domain of transfusion medicine and associated medical disciplines. In accordance with the Act on Scientific Research Activities of the Republic of Serbia, health care professionals at the BTIS acquire academic qualifications and gain opportunities to take aprt in the projects financed by the Ministry of Science of the Republic of Serbia, depending on the scientific competence of each candidate. Besides possibility of participation in the projects financed by the Government of Serbia, internal projects are designed and carried out within the BTIS, significant for the improvement of blood transfusion service. Educational Activities at the BTIS are performed in compliabce with the legal regulations, BTIS Statute, Contracts signed by the BTIS and other educational institutions (Medical Faculty, University of Belgrade, Nurses and Technicians College and Secondary Medical School) and on the Decree of the Academic Council of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Medical Academy, Belgrade, based on the decision made by the BTIS Stirring Committee.

    •  Beginning of the organized blood colelciton from voluntary, unpaid donors in cooperationwith the Red Cross of Yugoslavia
    • Beginning of the routine testing of the Rh blood group system
    • Beginning of the routine compatibility testing
    • Beginning of the routine donor testing to syphilis
    • 1953, The first mobile team blood drive in the village Lesnica nearby Loznica 
    • Lyophilized Plasma Preparation Center
    • Preparation of the first blood components (concentrated red blood cells, washed red blood  cells, platelets)  
    • 1954, the first stable blood products were prepared: albumin and gammaglobulin
    • Initiation of the inhouse preparation of test reagents -  Coomb`s serum and Anti-D test serum
    • Initiation of systematic testing of pregnant women blood groups (ABO system, and from 1958 Rh system)
    • The first issue of the journal Bulletin of Transfusion Medicine
    • 1957, Coagulation Laboratory was established
    • 1960, transfusion medicine specialization was introduced
    • 1963, Haemophilia Center was founded
    • 1965, the first PhD thesis was presented
    • 1967, preparation of cryoprecipitate, one of labile blood components
    • 1970, routine donor testing to HBV (hepatitis B virus) was introduced
    • 1972, HLA Tissue Typing Laboratory was founded
    • 1974, foundation of the Plasmapheresis, cytapheresis and outpatient transfusion Department
    • 1979/80, foundation of Transfusion Medicine Teaching Department, Medical Faculty of the  Belgrade University
    • 1980, the first therapeutic exchange transfusions in sensitized pregnant women
    • 1984, Reference immunohaematology laboratory was founded
    • 1987, Clinical transfusion department was founded,
    • 1987, routine donor testing to HIV, AIDS was introduced
    • 1989, Information System implementation
    • 1994, the first intrauterine transfusions were performed
    • 1994, routine donor testing to HCV (hepatitis C virus) was initiated
    • 1996, Transfusion medicine Section of the Serbian Medical Society was founded
    • 2003, PCR Laboratory was founded within HLA Tissue Typing Department
